  • Arabica Cafe Hookah Lounge

    9054 W. State Rd. 84 Davie/West Hollywood

  • Bardot

3456 N. Miami Ave., Miami Central Dade

    305-576-7750

Sick of social media? Bardot has a parking-lot entrance, no sign, and a zero-photography policy. A long bar dominates one side of the single open space, while Moroccan-cool lounge furniture, a pool table, and a stage take up the other half. Topnotch local bands, musicians, and DJs play regularly, and late-night parties make this spot prime for after hours. Plus there's also a weekday happy hour. Expect a cover charge, expensive drinks, and the possibility of a South Beach-style door hassle on busy nights.

  • Basement Miami

2901 Collins Ave., Miami Beach South Beach

    786-257-4548

The Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive" and John Travolta in flared pants -- that's what comes to mind when you hear the word "disco." But even though platform shoes and sequined jumpsuits were the craze in the '70s, Basement Miami has a different take on discotheque culture. Owned by Ian Schrager -- the cofounder of quintessential disco club Studio 54 -- and Mariott International, Basement opened during Art Basel Miami Beach 2014, when it hosted some of the season's best arty parties with the likes of James Murphy, Horse Meat Disco, and Louie Vega. Located on the ground floor of the newly reincarnated 1955 Seville Hotel, now known as the Miami Beach Edition, Basement avoids velvet ropes and VIP areas. It's just a simple nightclub and lounge area -- well, a bowling alley and ice-skating rink too. Oh, and flashing lights designed by Patrick Woodroffe, the genius who has illuminated concerts for Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2012 London Olympics.
  • Capone's

310 SW Second Ave. Fort Lauderdale

    954-524-1969

Capone's on Himmarshee Street in Fort Lauderdale embodies the sort of one-track-mind nightclub that either keeps you coming back for its consistency or sends you running for some place with at least a shred of personality. Things you can count on from Capone's: DJs playing a stream of Top 40s and in-your-face dance hits and well-endowed dancers in fishnets seriously twerking on top of the bars. Things you'll see at Capone's that should probably make you question life a little: old dudes in fedoras standing on top of VIP tables throwing promotional items into the crowd, wobbling drunks leering with predatory eyes at young women, and wads of cash raining over the asses of the girls in fishnets seriously twerking on top of the bars. No, Capone's is not a strip club, but it does sink to a similarly low moral standard. Either way, it's worth stopping in once in a while along your usual bar-hopping route of downtown Fort Lauderdale; the doorman will let you pour your outside drink into a plastic cup rather than throw it out, and the go-go dancers and laser lights will entertain you for at least a few minutes. There's also usually no bathroom line, which comes in handy after a stop at Fat Cat's next door.

  • Club Euro

120 SW 3rd Ave Fort Lauderdale

    954-530-0648

Enter this small, dark dance joint and be prepared to grind your booty against a crowd that’s come for the bass-heavy hip-hop, smooth R&B, and Latin dance jams. If you find yourself thirsty, walk straight back to the bar and order one of the neon-blue drinks. Don’t ask any questions—just throw it back and get your ass back on the dance floor.
  • Club Pulse

2520 S. Miami Rd. Fort Lauderdale

    954-627-6144

  • Club Space

34 NE 11th St., Miami Central Dade

    786-357-6456

Back in 2013, Club Space founder Louis Puig sold his stake in the crown jewel of Miami's nightlife scene after 13 years of pushing the dance music mecca into the hearts and minds of booty-shaking people worldwide. How popular is Space? Popular enough that it has to open only once a week, on Saturday nights, to remain profitable. How many other nightclubs can get away with that? Now that new ownership has taken over Space, the best thing they've done so far is leave well enough alone. Except for some minor upgrades here and there, you'll encounter the same ol' familiar venue. This is still the place to go for people who don't want the party to ever end, dancing on the downtown terrace well past sunrise.
  • Cowboy's Saloon

    1805 S. University Dr. Davie/West Hollywood

    954-476-0063

Wednesdays and Fridays are ladies' nights at Cowboy's Saloon, a surprisingly expansive bar, restaurant, and line-dance hall housed in between a Bed Bath & Beyond and a Pet Supermarket in a Davie strip mall off of University Drive. Ladies and gents with a hankering for some boots-knockin' will want to stop by on either of these nights, when the Bud Light flows like water and the local Hooters girls come out after a long, hard shift for some late-night bull riding. Cowboys sporting tight black V-neck T's, hats, leather cuff bracelets, and authentic Southern drawls serve drinks from behind the bar; and gals stamp their boots on the wooden line-dance floor with all the sass of Dolly Parton. But you don't have to be a horse-ridin', gun-shooting', tobacco-spittin' wrangler to enjoy a night out at Cowboy's. Folks from all walks of life can be spotted hanging out and letting loose at this relaxed and welcoming suburban watering hole.

  • E11even

29 NE 11th St., Miami Central Dade

    305-305-6611

If you had asked us a couple of years ago what every Miami nightlife addict's bucket list should include, we would've responded with a till-morning rager at Club Space followed by a quick visit to Goldrush — a combination that represented the very best in Miami late-night debauchery. But then Goldrush closed in 2013, and from its ashes rose E11even Miami, which a national magazine named "best new concept" not long after the nightclub's opening. It offers topless entertainers, choreographed go-go dancers with many costume changes, topnotch lighting and sound systems, and Cirque-style acrobats. E11even Miami has revolutionized the VIP experience. At this place, there are 32 "conversation lounges." But true ballers will want to experience the larger rooms, which feature private entrances, high-end appointments, giant TV screens, mirrored ceilings, and, of course, plenty of entertainment. Live a little at this 24/7 party playground.
  • El Tucán

1111 SW First Ave., Miami Central Dade

    305-535-0065

  • Electric Pickle

2826 N. Miami Ave., Miami Central Dade

    305-456-5613

If you want the city of Miami's version of South Beach in the '90s, you'll find it here. This is the cutting edge of electronic music parties in a small room. The Pickle has regular bookings of internationally renowned DJs.

  • The Garret at Grand Central

697 N. Miami Ave., 7th St side entrance, Miami Central Dade

    305-377-2277

The Garret is a secret hideaway club within downtown indie hot-spot Grand Central. It has its own side entrance (use 7th street), and a steep flight of stairs, so watch your footwork. The bar is dark, the drinks are cold, and the intimate room hosts artists and DJs well into the early morning.

  • LIV

4441 Collins Ave., Miami Beach South Beach

    305-674-4680

Located in the luxe Fontainebleau, LIV is upscale and known for its glamorous oomph. The VIP section is separated with velvet ropes and tight security. Balloon ceiling fixtures and lights displaying an array of trippy colors animate the large main space. The lower level houses a dance floor, and the upper level boasts a bar to congregate. DJs spin house music as well as some Top 40. LIV holds events that include special guest star DJs, live entertainment, and occasional celebrities. Unless you know someone that knows someone, expect an admission fee. A very strict door policy can make entry difficult, so make sure to dress to impress.

  • The Pawn Shop

219 Clematis St. West Palm Beach

    561-833-6500

The news that Miami's famed Pawn Shop club was reopening on Clematis Street got the blood of jealous 305 folk boiling but planted pleasant party smiles on the faces of folks in West Palm Beach. Trying to re-create a club that was actually in a pawn shop with an indoor school bus, an Airstream trailer, actual airplane seats, and the occasional half-pipe in the back seemed impossible. But the folks behind the new incarnation of the place managed to succeed at creating something new yet true to the old: a dance club with tons of character, an amusement park for big people, a floor that's begging to be hopped around on. The DJ booth is now set up in a Mack truck, a vintage Ferris wheel sits above one of the bars, there are pool tables, and yes, there's still a school bus. Less gritty than the old spot at the edge of Overtown, Pawn Shop now is a place where pretty people can get their butts moving in true style.

  • Story Nightclub

    305-538-2424

That parable should say it all about this 27,000 square foot South Beach dance club's prestige factor. Story is all about getting impressive names on-stage, from Avicii to Luciano to Seth Troxler. And here, people DANCE. Even the Heat know how hot this spot is. So put on those dancing shoes and prepare to get sweaty.

  • Twist

1057 Washington Ave., Miami Beach South Beach

    305-538-9478

A mainstay on Washington Avenue for over 15 years, Twist is the mother hen of South Beach gay clubs. Inside the spacious club you'll find seven different bars; a tiki bar, something called a "Frolic Lounge," a salsa room in the bottom floor, and a house music dance floor at the top. Still one of the few places where you can find go-go dancers at midnight on the beach, Twist is open seven days a week from 1 p.m. to 5 a.m. It's conveniently located near the popular 12th street gay beach, and the 11th street diner where Will Smith's "Miami" was shot. No cover, and open to 21+ only.
  • Vibe Las Olas

301 E. Las Olas Blvd. Fort Lauderdale

    954-713-7313

Brought to us by the same people who gave us YOLO and O Lounge, Vibe offers much of the same swank you've come to expect from that little plaza off Las Olas. Sculptural reliefs of curvy bodies create texture on the walls (look out for nipple-esque light fixtures above!) and reflect colors that rotate green, blue, purple, and yellow. Live bands play five out of six days. Mondays, though, are manic with '80s nostalgia. You'll hear Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Tony, Toni, Tone, among others. The few screens, one by the DJ booth and others in the bar, don't show sports or news. In a fun twist, you get to watch the music video for the song you're listening to. Also on Mondays, the two-for-one special applies to everything except specialty drinks, of which we strongly suggest trying the Smokey Mango or Pom Pom Pleasure.
