  • Brickell Irish Pub

1451 S. Miami Ave., Miami Central Dade

    305-381-6651

Brickell Irish Pub is rather like a very dark sports bar: lots of plasma TV sets, rock music, and so forth. If that's not your cup of brew, there's a brighter, quieter outdoor dining patio. Either way, you can choose from dozens of bottled beers at $4.50 to $5.50 and ten drafts at $6.25 per pour. The menu proffers about a half-dozen each of pub snacks, starters, salads, sandwiches, burgers, dinner entrées, and sides. What differentiates a "pub snack" from a "starter" is vague; the first category includes fish dip, Buffalo shrimp, mozzarella sticks, and potato skins; the latter brings, among other things, chicken wings, chicken tenders, and beef sliders. We advise to avoid the fish dip. Begin instead with char-grilled sliders or a pan-seared Irish fish cake flaky with smoked salmon and cod. Fish 'n' chips, shepherd's pie, and Irish stew were solid if not sensational. The only problem with a dessert called "McKrispy's bread pudding" is that it wasn't crisp enough. Service is amateurish, but prices are forgiving: All pub snacks and starters are under $10, all main courses less than $20.
  • The Field Irish Pub & Eatery

3281 Griffin Rd., Dania Beach Fort Lauderdale

    954-964-5979

Walk into this authentic Irish Pub and you will be instantly transported to a small farmtown in the countryside without leaving the confines of Dania Beach. Not only can you get a proper Guinness, Smithwicks, Harp or Strongbow on tap, you can add a nip of whiskey, and an order of blood pudding. The heavy wood tables at the Field are the perfect place to slam them when you're done. The bar top is as Irish a smiling lass in Carlingford, and the seats are just as comfortable. Nautical adornments, weathered art, vintage books, and an ancient looking fireplace fill out the space.

  • Maguire's Hill 16

535 N. Andrews Ave. Fort Lauderdale

    954-764-4453

Although other Irish bars may stay slightly truer to the Irish Pub image -- Waxy O'Connor's and the Field spring immediately to mind -- Maguires, which is owned by an Irish family, still retains a huge helping of mementos and scenery from the Auld Sod. With numerous "Best Of" awards under its belt, this cozy, downtown Fort Lauderdale neighborhood Irish bar is truly a place for all occasions, be it a raucous Saint Patrick's Day party, an afterwork drinking session, or dinner with the fam. Traditional fare like bangers 'n' mash and lamb stew mingles with sandwiches, salads, and some very large burgers. Drinks are poured strong by a staff that knows just how you like 'em, and a two-for-one happy hour includes free bites of food.

This northern sister pub to the famed South Beach Playwright carries on the authenticity with interiors assembled from pieces of pubs brought over from Ireland and hand-assembled on Hallandale Beach. Thirteen beers including the required Guinness are all on tap while a concise menu of Irish standards, burgers, and seafood is available. Chicken curry, shepherd's pie, and vegetarian penne pasta bowl with garlic bread are memorable.
  • Tim Finnegan's Irish Pub

2885 S. Federal Highway Delray Beach

    561-330-3153

Located just south of Linton Blvd on Federal Highway in Delray Beach, Florida, Tim Finnegan’s is truly the Irish cultural center for the region. “In Ireland, the traditional public house is traditionally very much the cultural and social center of the town. So many Irish bars in America lose that sense of community,” said Lisa Walsh, who owns and operates Tim Finnegan’s Pub together with her husband, Noel Walsh. We started Tim Finnegan’s because we wanted that warm sense of community, warmth, history and heritage we missed so much from back home.” This week’s main event at Tim Finnegan’s is certainly the St. Patrick’s Day party, certain to be the best craic in the Boca/Delray area. But a true Irish pub does not live on St. Patrick’s Day alone. The pub also hosts a number of Irish cultural events and happenings all year round: • Live Irish music on stage every weekend. • Weekly meetings of Tir na mBlath, the South Florida chapter of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, the Society of Musicians of Ireland. • Live Irish set dancing to live music every Wednesday, led by experienced Irish dancer Kathy Kelly. All welcome! • Traditional Irish Session every Sunday beginning at 4pm – a gathering of traditional musicians dedicated to playing the traditional reels, jigs, hornpipes, sean nos singing and other traditional dance tunes of Ireland. • Weekly classes in Irish Gaelic. • Singer-songwriter gatherings.

  • Tipperary Pub

1540 SE Third Court Deerfield Beach

    954-421-9769

It's always funny to see the retro pubs -- this one has the coolest "cocktails" sign ever -- now touting Wi-Fi. This dark-wood and Irish-geegaw-decorated bar has it, though, along with some real Irish grub. Breakfast features Irish bacon, bangers, and blood pudding (imported from County Cork), omelets, pancakes, and biscuits and gravy. It's bar food otherwise: wings, chicken fingers, cheese fries, burgers, and beer. Notable are the sandwiches - corned beef, fully loaded Italian sub, liverwurst, turkey, and a Philly cheese steak. There's a bargain black Angus strip steak, served with potatoes and veggies, for $9.95 - you can barely cook it at home for that. (Plus, you'd miss out on the jokes thrown out around the bar.) The entertainment includes two pool tables, darts, and a shuffleboard table. Occasionally, the friendly owner roasts a whole pig out on the back patio - call or check the website to see when he's doing it next. Happy hour is 4 to 8 p.m. daily.
